What to Expect
Your health and well being is most important to us. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you may be taken immediately to a treatment room or be asked to wait briefly until a room becomes available.
After you have been evaluated by a physician, it may be necessary to order blood tests, x-rays or other types of tests to assist in diagnosis and treatment. The estimated processing time for and x-rays is approximately 1-2 hours. Lab results generally take one hour, although your length of stay may increase when complicated tests or consultations with other specialists are necessary. If the ER is currently very full, your tests may be started and then you may return to the lobby while they process.
After your test results are completed, the physician will re-evaluate you. A physician specialist may be consulted to help in your care. If you need to be admitted to the hospital, an appropriate bed will be assigned. Your medical care will continue in the Emergency Center until you are transported to your room in the hospital.
If you are discharged from the Emergency Center you will be given instructions regarding your diagnosis. It is very important that you understand what to do when you leave the department and what to expect in the future. Your personal physician may be contacted regarding your visit to the Emergency Center.
